Medical Professionals

Referrals

We try to see new patients as soon as possible as we know delay can produce extra anxiety.

We can receive referrals by telephone, fax or letter directly to one of our doctors, or by calling one of our sites for an appointment.

To conform with Medicare requirements, we need a written referral valid for the period of treatment and on-going follow-up .

If you are a general practitioner, you may receive a request for a referral letter. We would be grateful if you would agree to our request for this to be valid “indefinitely”. This will minimise the need to make further requests at regular intervals.

Multidisciplinary care

Cancer care is increasingly complex. Often decisions are made after discussion at a multi-disciplinary meeting (MDM) with a team of health care professionals. This may include specialist surgeons, radiation and medical oncologists, pathologists, radiologists, specialist nurses, social workers and dieticians.

We welcome the input and attendance of all clinicians involved in a patient’s care at an MDM. However we recognise this is not always practical.

Communications

We have a policy to provide written feedback to the referring doctor, general practitioner, and other involved specialists and health care providers.
